Quantum Matter & Simulation

This line focuses on ultracold atomic systems as a platform for quantum simulation, aimed at exploring emergent phenomena in complex many-body systems. Ultracold gases provide a highly versatile setting in which external potentials can be engineered, atom–atom interactions can be tuned via Feshbach resonances, and neutral atoms can be coupled to synthetic gauge fields, effectively emulating magnetic-field effects. This experimental flexibility enables the investigation of phenomena such as superfluidity, nonlinear quantum dynamics, condensed-matter models, and the emergence of topological phases, among others. The research spans superfluid mixtures and hydrodynamic instability analogues, dipolar gases and supersolid phases, atoms in optical lattices with Floquet engineering and topological matter, quantum control and its applications, as well as turbulence and spin dynamics in nonlinear systems.
