Jorge Casanova is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Chemistry at EHU, where he leads the Quantum Design and Technologies Group.
His work bridges the gap between theoretical physics, experiments, and industrial applications—a mission that also led him to co-found QUBIZ.team, a quantum startup focused on engineering solutions. From a more technical perspective, his current research focuses on quantum sensing (magnetometry, electrometry, nanoscale and microscale NMR) through tailored control techniques in solid-state platforms, information processing in trapped-ion systems, and AI- and Bayesian-driven data analysis.
Scientific Leadership: He has published around 100 peer-reviewed articles, including papers in high-impact journals such as Physical Review Letters, Nature Communications, PRX, and npj Quantum Information.
Technology Transfer: He holds 7 patents and has successfully implemented theoretical frameworks across 16 quantum platforms, collaborating directly in 8 major experimental setups.
Funding and Fellowships: He has been awarded prestigious fellowships, including the Alexander von Humboldt, Ikerbasque, and Ramón y Cajal fellowships. He currently leads a portfolio of regional, national, and European research projects.
Academic Contribution: He has delivered more than 15 plenary and invited talks worldwide. He currently teaches the Master’s-level course «Quantum Technologies» at the University of the Basque Country EHU.
