Íñigo L. Egusquiza is an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics at EHU since 1998.
He completed his PhD under the supervision of Alan J. Macfarlane, focusing on physical models incorporating quantum groups. In collaboration with Héctor J. De Vega, he proposed and studied configurations of classical strings in gravitational backgrounds, contributing to the understanding of conformal excitations at finite temperature.
After joining EHU, he developed a research line on temporal non-locality and the characterization of “good clocks,” which was later combined with work with Gonzalo Muga on the general role of time in quantum mechanics. Building on his teaching in quantum information at the doctoral level, his research has expanded into quantum methodology, quantum simulation, and mathematical methods in quantum optics.
More recently, he has introduced novel mathematical approaches to superconducting circuit models, including analytical extensions of classical Sturm–Liouville theory to systems with radiative boundary conditions, as well as algebraic approaches involving anomalous symmetries in specific operational regimes.
He has played an active role in integrating modern quantum developments into teaching, notably through the creation of the Master’s programme in Quantum Science and Technology at EHU. He has supervised PhD theses and has contributed extensively to the scientific community, including service as referee for numerous journals and as Vice-President of the Spanish Royal Society of Physics.
