Ander Tobalina is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics at EHU, at the School of Engineering in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
His PhD (2021), supervised by J. Gonzalo Muga and Ion Lizuain, focused on the design of shortcuts to adiabaticity for quantum control processes and on the analysis of the energetic cost associated with these techniques. During his doctoral studies, he carried out a research stay in the group of Ronnie Kosloff, where he worked on extensions of shortcut protocols to open quantum systems.
After completing his PhD, he joined the Quantum Design and Nanoscale Technologies group at EHU, led by Jorge Casanova, working on control protocols for quantum sensing. He later moved to Arquimea Research Center in Tenerife, where he led a project aimed at establishing an experimental quantum sensing laboratory with medical applications. Since 2023, he has been a member of the QUINST group.
His current research integrates experience from these different stages, combining shortcuts to adiabaticity, quantum thermodynamics, and NV-center–based quantum sensing.
