Jens Siewert is an Ikerbasque Research Professor at the Department of Physical Chemistry at EHU since 2009.
He obtained his PhD in Physics from the University of Karlsruhe (Germany) in 1996. He carried out postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) from 1996 to 1998 and at the University of Catania (Italy) from 1998 to 2001. He then worked as an associate researcher at the University of Regensburg (Germany) from 2001 to 2004. Between 2004 and 2009, he held a Heisenberg Fellowship at the University of Catania and the University of Regensburg.
His research has evolved from mesoscopic transport in superconducting circuits and early quantum computing implementations, through geometric phases and adiabatic control protocols, towards a long-standing focus on entanglement theory and quantum correlations. More recently, his work includes the development of approaches based on generalized Bloch representations for the analysis of multipartite quantum states.
He has supervised graduate students and is active in the scientific community as editor of Quantum Journal since 2016. He has also served as a remote expert for the European Research Council (ERC) and the European Innovation Council (EIC), as well as a panel member for the National Science Centre (NCN) of Poland.
