Evgeny Sherman is an Ikerbasque Research Professor at the Department of Physical Chemistry at EHU since 2008.
He obtained his PhD in Theoretical Physics from the Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics in Moscow (1990). From 1990 to 2001, he served as Assistant and Associate Professor at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (State University). He then held research fellowships at the Gutenberg University of Mainz and RWTH Aachen (1994–1995, 1998–1999), followed by a Lise Meitner Fellowship at the Karl-Franzens University of Graz (1999–2003). From 2004 to 2008, he worked as a Research Associate at the University of Toronto.
His research focuses on quantum physics, including various low-dimensional systems, ultracold atomic gases, and Bose–Einstein condensates. He works, both alone and with collaborators, on quantum control, nanophysics, machine learning, effects of disorder and nonlinearities, solitons, and chaos, always with a strongly fluctuating success.
